Our Story

What began as two friends trying out an Indian block printing kit out of curiosity has grown into a small business that we absolutely love running!

With Gill's background in tailor-made travel and our shared love of India, we decided to visit the place where the beautiful wooden printing blocks are made and discover more about this centuries-old craft.

Our travels took us to Bagru, near Jaipur, where we watched incredibly skilled artisans carving intricate wooden blocks and learnt about the fascinating process of hand block printing. We even tried our hand at printing with vintage blocks that must have created thousands of designs over the years. Our early attempts certainly amused the expert printers supervising us — although we're pleased to say we've improved considerably since then!

 

After many, many craft markets, we'd saved enough to return to Jaipur, where we met the manufacturers and tailors we're now proud to work with. Building these relationships has become one of our favourite parts of Wild Lotus. We love collaborating on designs, learning from their expertise and getting to know the people behind our collections.

Today, Wild Lotus is a small, independent UK business with a passion for beautiful fabrics, vibrant colours and designs that are a little bit different.

From hand block-printed homewares and colourful cotton pyjamas to embroidered jackets and quilted accessories, we hope to bring a little colour and individuality into your everyday life.
